MAIDS!.. Can't live without'em, can't burn them alive!
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY WORK.. You say left, they go right.. You say yes, they say maybe! I am not sure how to deal with them anymore..
I used to think that if you are nice to them, they will appreciate you and be loyal. Well it obviously does not work that way. I even give them money just to buy their loyalty.. AND THEY BACK STAB ME!.. The steal your things, or loose them.. And it makes me mad as hell when they break things and hide them! Come and tell me you broke it, I swear I KNOW that people drop things.. Don't hide it and hope I won't find out!
OH!.. And you give them SPECIFIC instructions on how you want things to be done. For example let's say how to wash your shirt and how to iron it. THEY GO AND DO IT THEIR WAY REGARDLESS!.. Amazing..
so I decided to be mean, right? And I started having an attitude and started being specific and bossy.. And what do I get!? A MAID YELLS AT ME IN FRONT OF ALL THE OTHER MAIDS! I never thought of myself as a harsh aggressive person, but MY GOD! I was clinching my fists so tight because I felt that the minute I let loose I am going to slap that woman so hard! Her eye balls might get knocked out!.. The things she said, and worse yet THE WAY SHE SAID IT!
somebody help me, how do you keep them in line!? I am not used to giving orders and I have a tender heart, cannot be hard on them. ADVICE PLEASE!

Take one and abuse her in front of them and kick her around, make sure all see it.

ok people.. since I am calmer now.. I have to clarify things..
1. I CAN NEVER LIFT A HAND ON THEM.. 7ARAM O AKHAAF MIN ALLAH.
2. let them eat cake! it was a figure of speech! don't take things so literally.. you don't know me so don't judge.. i don't even yell at them because I think that yelling is pointless! as for nothing good to say.. I HAVE ALOT OF GOOD THINGS TO SAY.. but not on this post.. i needed to vent and I did.
3. um mit3ib.. abi maryyyy :( I miss my baby sitter.. but then again.. we have Gulam.. the godfather! ehhehe walla I love them bes lazim 3arraat! allah ekhalleelikum khadamkum.. khosoosan Mareya;)

I can go on & on & on abt things the have done, but I short on time for now. but when I see you I'll tell you abt one famouse story of mine. I waites ten years for my revenge.

honestly we are not alone.. there are so many that feel the same way.. but as you said, it is a tabboo subject. shinsawwi .. nafs illi baali3 moos.. la baal3ah wala gaader e6al3a :)

it's difficult to find all the qualitties in one maid.. due to many reasons (a) alot of them are not educated and common sense to you might seem like rocket science to them.. if they knew any better they wouldn't have resorted to being maids " it's not the best job in the world" (b) they left their families, loved ones behind to find a proper way to make a living and support them (c) some; because of the harsh conditions they go through, tend to lose trust and expect the worst out of you and wouldn't give their best effort. (d) el khadam yikharboon ba3ath.. for many reasons other maids might drop a few lines in ur maid's ear and give her guidelines on how to make ur life a living hell..
this whole thing requires patience and alot of hard work to be able to mold them the way you want.
at the begining you have to be straight forward, direct and give guide lines and rules and put some margin of error.. since they're new and your rules differ from any other house they've been to. thn you start with the repeated guidance when they do make a mistake..
then el thawab wal 3eqab...you give several chances on making a mistake on the same issue and then you start giving 1st and second warnings and on the third you have to take a stand.
Trust me it works..but with time!!
and if you feel that they had a load of work one day and you over worked them ..a reward would be nice.
and good look we all suffer from low competent, discouraged and fustrated maids and have had bad experiences and won't expect you to be any different.

filmgrl.. you have now idea how much I spoil them.. that's why I get so upset when they lie to me or do something wrong .. I AM THE LEAST DEMANDING in the house.. not to mention most understanding! but crap happens.. khadam awwal WAYED a7san..

I like the way you think.. and actually my dad and I were talking aout the same thing last night.. i was telling him that he has to start a pushinment method since we are so nice to them and it is not getting us anywhere.. but you raised a very good point.. maids DO currupt new maids.. why is that?? competition?? 6abe3 khayes..
